The Bible has the ability to change our lives as we receive its truth in our hearts. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and this series is focused on revealing Him.
It is no secret that our world is in chaos. It is an ever changing place, and the pain, suffering, and trouble we see in the news or experience personally seems to escalate every day.
For centuries scientists believed that the earth was the stationary center of the universe and everything, including the sun and stars orbited around it. Consider the story of the spider. Aristotle classified the spider as an insect. Insects, it was known, have six legs. So for centuries no one questioned the great Aristotle, and it was just commonly assumed that spiders were insects and therefore had 6 legs. It was Jean Baptiste Lamarck who presented the classification of the spider as an arachnid having eight legs. Merely because something is believed for centuries doesn’t make it true. Could it be that a tradition like one of these long held ideas has slipped into the Christian church? Is it possible that many have accepted falsehood in the place of truth and very few people today question it?
When it comes to the question of the origin of life, you have only two basic positions: There is a God, or there isn’t. Either God has always existed and brought about the creation of the cosmos. How do we worship the Creator of heaven and earth? How does He remind us of His creative power? At creation did He leave us a symbol of His creative authority? Revelation is the book of endings. We can only understand the book of endings if we understand the book of beginnings. We will only understand the significance of the monumental issues in today’s world if we understand the events at creation.
Twenty-first century homes are often a battlefield. Words like abuse, conflict, anger and hostility are commonplace when describing the home. We read about families who spend very little time at home; children eating on the run. The number of single parents is growing in our society. The structure of the home is different today. Many parents are seriously concerned about what is coming into their home via the internet. The home used to be a safe sanctuary but today all that is changed. Our children are exposed to various versions of right and wrong. There are competing values for the minds of our children. How do you protect moral values in an immoral world?
In our last study, we saw the importance of the Three Angels’ message in Revelation 14. This is the final message that will go to the globe before Jesus comes. It is the most urgent message in all of history. It is our message, one that God has given to our generation. It is relevant today for our time. Tonight, we are going to study a specific portion of this prophecy that opens our eyes to the final judgement. Is it possible that the judgement has already begun? We are going to let Jesus speak to us from Scripture yet again.
Revelation 1:1 simply says, “The revelation of Jesus Christ.” As we have said many times, the book of Revelation is prophetic, but it is also relational! It reveals Jesus both as the Alpha and Omega, the conquering king, but it also reveals Him as much more. The book is a revealing of His primary role, which we are going to study tonight.
Where did Evil come from? What is sin? How does God separate sin from sinners? What is the framework for God’s plan?
In what condition did God create the earth? The Bible says it was very good. Yet, when you see the realities of every day life, we know the opposite is true. Many tears flow every day from those who’s hearts are broken by tragedies like death, disease, abuse. The pain that many ensure make our planet anything but peaceful. Many people look to blame God for the suffering in the world. Many people don’t believe in Him because of it. But, is He to blame?
God promises that through prophecy, we can understand what is happening in the world today and why it’s important. When we look at the world through God’s lens, we begin to understand things from His perspective and are able to process the events of this world in a new light. It allows us to make sense of the chaos and place every piece in it’s proper context. Bible prophecy reveals that we can have confidence in Him and His promise to guide us through this world safely when we allow Him to direct our footsteps. When we put our trust in Him, we can be sure that our lives will have a source of peace and rest that only the Prince of Peace can give.
